Marmot Superalloy Bio Rain Jacket
Review by Will Trail
Initial Impressions
The Marmot Superalloy Bio Rain Jacket is designed for lightweight hiking and outdoor adventures, with a strong emphasis on protection from both sun and rain. Its clean, minimalist design and functional features also make it suitable for casual, everyday wear beyond the trail.

Detailed Review
Constructed with a lightweight nylon ripstop shell, the Superalloy Bio features Marmot’s NanoPro™ waterproof and breathable membrane. This high-performance fabric uses a densely packed pore structure to allow air exchange and moisture vapor release, without sacrificing windproof or waterproof performance.
The full-length water-resistant front zipper makes it easy to put on and take off, while the environmentally conscious PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment and 100% taped seams ensure reliable water resistance and leak protection. Adjustable drawcords at the hood and hem help seal out the elements and add warmth when needed.
The zippered chest pocket is well-sized for securely holding small essentials including a cell phone, and it also doubles as a stuff sack—allowing the entire 6 oz jacket to pack neatly into itself. This makes it an ideal companion for hiking or biking when you need compact, on-the-go weather protection.
Fit-wise, the jacket runs slightly roomy. If you’re between sizes or prefer a closer fit, consider sizing down. However, the extra space is great for layering in cooler conditions. Elastic cuffs provide a flexible fit that doesn’t restrict arm movement during active use.
In terms of performance, the jacket excels at keeping out rain and cutting wind. I tested it in 45°F rainy conditions and cool, breezy desert mornings. It offered reliable rain protection with no noticeable water penetration, and I experienced no internal moisture buildup thanks to its effective breathability and adjustable ventilation via the hood and hem. After the rain cleared, the shell dried quickly in the sun and was easy to pack away.

Closing Thoughts
The Marmot Superalloy Bio Rain Jacket stands out for its lightweight construction, excellent water and wind resistance, and breathable design. It’s comfortable, highly packable, and suitable for a range of conditions when paired with the right base layers. Whether you’re hiking, commuting, or heading out socially, this jacket is a versatile piece that fits seamlessly into both outdoor and everyday wardrobes. With this jacket being so lightweight and packable, I plan on having this jacket along with me while hiking and mountain biking in case of rainy weather.
