Teva Terra Canyon Mesh Shoe

Review by Erin Trail

The Teva Terra Canyon Mesh Shoe is Teva’s newest option for a casual sneaker that has many of the hallmarks of a Teva shoe. These shoes are lightweight and breathable, appropriate for all day wear while also being capable of handling a creek crossing.

The shoe upper is made from a 55% recycled polyester. The shoes are very breathable and are better suited for wearing in warmer months. The midsole is made from 15% recycled EVA and the outsole is 30% recycled rubber. This shoe is also vegan. The heel is a collapsible sandwich mesh while the laces are elastic, making the shoe easy to take on and off.

The Teva Terra Canyon Mesh Shoe is a unisex shoe that fits true to size, however being unisex, I found the fit to be a bit wide. Usually, I would just tighten my laces to make a wider shoe fit better, but the ends of the elastic laces are sewn into the tongue.  I had to get creative and tie little knots between the last eyelet and tongue to take up excess lace.  This tightened down the shoe for my narrow foot but looks a little wonky from an aesthetic perspective.

I got these shoes to wear as a casual shoe.  They’re great for wearing around town for more casual events and they even pass as a work-appropriate sneaker (for a more casual work environment). Teva Terra Canyon Mesh Shoe comes in a variety of earth-toned colors. At $80, they’re affordable enough to buy several shades to match your mood.

I’ve been wearing the Teva Terra Canyon Mesh Shoe nearly daily for four weeks.  The shoes were comfortable straight out of the box, with no break in period. They’ve shown minimal wear, just a little scuffing on the white toe bumper that easily cleans off. I have fickle feet, due to a torn plantar plate, and need shoes that are cushioned.  I’ve had zero foot pain while wearing these and have found that I don’t need my custom insoles because they are supportive enough for my feet on their own.

If you do decide to get more adventurous than errands and office work, the rubber outsole is plenty grippy for light hiking. The upper material is light enough to dry quickly if the shoes get wet.

I put the outside play to inside play wearability to the test with a pretty typical ColoRADo day. I had concert tickets in Boulder, but to beat traffic, we got into Boulder early and decided to go for a quick hike.  We hiked for about 45 minutes, encountering steep hard packed dirt, loose dirt, and chunky rocks. After the hike, we went and grabbed dinner and then spent 2.5 hours dancing in the front row of the Franz Ferdinand show. The Teva Terra Canyon Mesh Shoe was comfortable and perfectly functional for the short hike, giving me controlled grip and comfort on the trail.  Off-trail, the shoes were stylish enough for concert casual wear and were plenty cushioned for the hard concert hall flooring. I was really pleased at my footwear choice for the day, in my version of  a “day to night” footwear challenge.

Closing Thoughts

The Teva Terra Canyon Mesh Shoe is a stylish casual shoe that offers the cornerstone sustainability of Teva while maintaining it’s adventurous side.  This shoe is comfortable and durable, being appropriate as both a daily casual shoe and for outdoor adventures.

Cycling encouraged her to see landscapes in a new way, learn new skills and to develop self reliance; now she often goes and does Type 2 rides just to see if she can do it.  She’s got all the bikes: gravel, mountain, fat bike, time trial and road.

She is even known to combine her love of camping and cycling and go off on solo 24 hour overnight bikepacking trips in the mountains of Colorado. In addition to bikes, she teaches yoga, lifts weights, skis, SUPs and has recently purchased a campervan.

2025 brings some exciting things.  Erin has qualified to be on Team USA for USA Triathlon and will be competing in a World Championship off-road triathlon in Pontevedra, Spain in June. To prepare for this event, she’s got several mountain bike races and training weekends planned in the months leading up to the big day.  Additionally, she’s racing Ironman Boise 70.3 in July.  Once her race schedule closes out in July, she’ll be moving to more adventure based activities (bikepacking, vanlife, and mountain bike festivals).

When not adventuring, she can be found on a sunny patio somewhere, drinking beers with her husband.
