If you are anything like me your least favorite part of training for an ultramarathon are the evenings that you can’t make it to the trails and end up running on the roads. Let’s face it, running on the roads at night can be risky business if you’re not prepared.

Especially if those roads have no shoulder area and are blanketed in darkness as they snake through the thick Pine Forests found on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

This is where the Nathan Sports reflective gloves come in. These gloves have a reflective pattern that covers the entire outside of the glove. This helps you become more visible from multiple directions as your arms swing when you run.

Nathan Sports Reflective Gloves Key Features:

  • Reflective: as stated above the reflective pattern is a large enough area to really help you be seen and safe while running at night.
  • Outside Pocket: There is a small pocket on the outside of the hand that works well with smaller-sized car keys or cash. In addition, it allows you to add a clip-on light to the outside of the glove for added visibility. The lights are sold separate but still really cool: https://www.nathansports.com/products/hyperbrite-rx-strobe-rechargeable-led-clip-light
  • Conductive Tru-Touch Thumb and Finger Pad: these pads make it easy to snap a pic, make a call, or even zoom in on the trusty All Trails map.
  • Nose Wipe Thumb: there is a really soft fabric on the thumb that makes wiping off your face or glasses easy and comfortable.

Favorite feature: I love how light but also warm these gloves are. Nathan calls out that they are good for 30 to 50 degrees but I have used them in colder weather and have been really comfortable. They have a nice fleece lining but are not heavy or bulky.

What would I change? I would make the top pocket slightly bigger to fit some of the larger car keys.

MSRP: $29.99

While he lives pretty far from the mountains, he puts a heavy focus on preparing for them and inspiring others to do the same. He first fell in love with the mountains on family trips to the White Mountains and the Adirondacks. He spent the majority of his early life competitively running and leisurely paddling, however after college he began focusing on learning to climb, snowboard, and backpack.

Over the past ten years since then, he has been fortunate enough to gain some amazing experiences exploring North America. Some of the most memorable thus far are alpine climbing in the Sierra, trail running in Alberta, learning to splitboard in NH, countless days hiking in the Catskills, or a plethora of mellow days paddling the Chesapeake Bay with friends.
