Bolle Lightshifter Sunglass
My favorite performance eyewear this year is the 2020 Bolle Lightshifter Sunglass(MSRP $200) performance eyewear, as worn by the French cycling team, AG2R La Mondiale.
The 2020 professional cycling season may have ended, but you can ride in style using what the pros wore.
Bolle Lightshifter Sunglass Review
Their sharp, angled design first caught my eye at Media Preview night at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market back in January. They looked so aero.
In the past, I’ve typically worn performance eyewear with smaller lenses because I have a rather small and flat face. Most frames simply didn’t fit my face; especially ones with shield-type lenses constructed of one continuous lens that covers my entire face. .
Semi-rimless, the smaller fit Bolle Lightshifters are one of the few shield sports eyewear frames that accommodate my face comfortably while also wearing a bike helmet. Other notable features include a Thermogrip® adjustable nosepiece, vented shield, and curved temple for maximum comfort.
Bolle’s quality is unmatched.Ventilated, light, and a snug fit, these are better than any I have used in the past.
I preferred to wear the Bolle Lightshifters for long training rides where I’d be exposed to a variety of lighting conditions. The optical clarity the polarized Lightshifters provided was unmatched. Not only was glare greatly reduced, but the clarity in which I could see variations in pavement was outstanding.
Offering 100 percent UV protection, the NXT® photochromic lens is loaded with technology including anti-fog treatments P80+,and anti-scratch treatment (this is now a requirement for me, I’ve damaged so many lenses). Another notable feature about the lens is that my eyes did not dry out and it was effective in deflecting debris kicked up by winds.
From riding long stretches of flat, to epic hill climb rides past 14,000 feet (Mt. Elbert ride), I wore the Bolle Lightshifters on my most grueling rides. Since I had not been wearing wider shield lenses while riding, it was great to finally have total coverage and protect my peripheral vision as well. In fact, I’m looking forward to wearing them for other outdoor recreational activities this winter.
The noticeable difference between Bolle Lightshifters and other performance eyewear I’ve worn cycling is immense, both in fit and comfort. It is no surprise that it was the eyewear of choice for pro cyclists this year.
