Houdini Mono Air Houdi Review – Super Comfortable and 80% less shedding than regular fleece!

The Houdini Mono Air Houdi is a fantastic hoody made from a new Polartec Power Air Light that is made from recycled materials and can be recycled.

Houdini is a Swedish company that makes some very stylish and functional outdoor clothing.  What really separates them from other companies, is their dedication to using recycled materials and creating garments that can be recycled as well. I know a lot of companies do this, and I give them props for doing so.  But, Houdini is really next level with this.

Case in point – they worked with Polartec to develop this new fleece – Power Air Light. In fact, they teamed up to create “Project Mono Air” and made this open-source.  How cool is that?!?  Check out the video below to learn more.

So… that is impressive 🙂

That is why you are here, isn’t it? Let’s go over the fit, function, and what I like about this hoody

I am testing a size XL for this review, and I really like the way it fits.  It is not boxy or baggy, nor is it alpine-tight.  It fits somewhere in the middle.  Think, non-restrictive and athletic fit. For reference, I am 6’1″ 45″ chest 33″ waist and 36/37 arms.  As you can see from the video, it is a very good fit for me.

I like the slightly longer fit as well.  The arms are more than long enough, though, not too long.  There are handy monkey holes if you are into that kind of thing.  Personally, I don’t use them. But they are not in the way.

The two zippered hand pockets are a very generous size and the two-way zipper is a nice touch.  The hood is really nice and provides excellent coverage over a bare head or hat. I LOVE that this hoody has two internal drop pockets!  I use these to store my iPad mini when I am training students and want to keep their notes close at hand.

80% less shedding than traditional fleece

This is what I was most impressed with.  I have a lot of fleece hoodies, as I am sure you do as well.  One of the most common reasons for retiring my fleeces is when they start to shed out of control.  Usually, I can get at least a year of solid use and washes before it gets donated.  But still, that is not very resourceful on my end.

To speed up the use process, I washed the Houdini Mono Air at least 6 times in 4 weeks.  I used the jacket almost daily and even slept in it when winter camping.  I could not get any fibers to come loose in the testing process.  Usually, I get some shedding after the 2nd or 3rd wash with other fleeces.  So, this is a big victory.  Plus, the hoody looks new.  Very cool.

So, if you are looking for a sharp, functional, well-designed, blue sign approved, recycled, Polartec fleece that does not shed like other fleece, then this is for you! Hats off to you Houdini!
