Kuhl Navigatr Short – The Best Shorts for Active Guys
This is a very big claim, and I will tell you why I feel this way. I am a big fan of Kuhl pants and shorts and wear them almost every day. From outdoor adventures to day to day use, the Kuhl Navigatr Short $79 is capable of handling the situation.
Stretch!
As a fitness coach, I am constantly demonstrating exercises and moving around. It is necessary for my pants and shorts to have stretch. From deep squats to Turkish get-ups, the shorts need to play nicely and not restrict any movement.
Kuhl Navigatr short – better than Kuhl Renegade
Previously, I lived in the Kuhl Renegade shorts and pants. Those were my favorites for many years. They had great stretch, ample pockets, good looks, and durability. Nothing wrong with the Renegades at all. Many years of great use from them. You can see the Kuhl Renegade HD video and read the review here.
Then, I tried the new Navigatr shorts. Within the first 30 minutes of wearing them, I put an order in for 3 more and 4 pairs of pants. Have you ever done that before? LOL. I think that is a true testimony to how great these shorts are. You could basically stop reading this review now, and go get a pair.
What makes them so great?
They are lighter weight and have even more stretch. Plenty of pockets, including a secret passport pocket. You still get the smartphone side pocket that many of us love. UPF 50+ sun protection. The shorts drape nicely and don’t seem to wrinkle. I find them more breathable than the Renegade shorts as well.
Comfort!
Not only do they feel lightweight, breath well, and all that. They have a stretch waistband. At first, I thought it might be cheesy and look like a pair of gym shorts. But, they actually look sharp! My wife was impressed with them, so it passes the spouse test. Always important to pass that test!

Kuhl is great about offering odd waist sizes, and I really appreciate that. I am a 33″ waist and that can be hard to find in some other brands. On top of that, there are 3 lengths of shorts – 8″, 10″ and 12″. I am wearing the 12″ in this review. I feel that the sizing is accurate as well.
