Hillsound Trail Crampon – Not my first crampon, but maybe my last!

I took the Hillsound Trail Crampon for a spin on my favorite foothills hike and it was the perfect terrain to see how this crampon could handle. Being March in Colorado, I trekked through mud, snow, ice, slush and dry ground and I was impressed with this product!

Hillsound Trail Crampon review

At one point I actually stood on a slick ice packed slope just to see what would happen and I didn’t go anywhere – the 2/3 inch carbon steel spikes definitely did their job.

I hiked in the evening shortly before sunset and didn’t leave myself much time to gear up, but getting these crampons on was a cinch. The rubber was more malleable than other crampons I’ve tried so it was less effort to fit them over my hiking boot but once they’re in place the fit is secure and didn’t shift at all during my hike.

The magic must be in the elastomer harness found on the inner part of the rubber. There is also a Velcro strap that goes across the top of your shoe for extra security which I liked the look of and which added to the functionality.

Hillsound boasts an ergonomic plate system which enables even weight distribution and reduces fatigued muscles when using this crampon, and I will say that I was just as comfortable hiking with these crampons as I was hiking in just my hiking shoe.

There was no discomfort during the hike and afterwards/next day my feet and legs felt great (such a win!)

I’ve done quite a bit of research and price shopping in the past for crampons, and I wish I had found the HIllsound trail crampon sooner because it turns out you don’t have to spend over $100 for a comfortable quality crampon.

Hillsound offers a solid product and backs it up with a 2-year limited warranty for only $79.95. I highly recommend investing in the Hillsound trail crampon as your go-to spike!
