Review

I love a good tank top for summertime.  I also always wear a tank top for hot yoga and weight lifting.  I wore the Marmot Women’s Uptrail Active Tank Top on several trail runs, hot yoga, and during weight lifting sessions.

The fit of the Marmot Women’s Uptrail Active Tank Top is slightly relaxed. I am a women’s size medium on the Marmot size guide and found that the size medium fits me well.  The neckline is high, which I personally like as I always forget to put sunscreen on my chest. The body of the tank top is just the right amount of flowy – the shirt doesn’t cling but it also doesn’t flap around.

My only complaint – a slight one – is that the neckline and armpit trim is a bit stiff.  I was worried about chafing, but I have yet to experience issues in runs up to 2 hours in duration.

The Marmot Women’s Uptrail Active Tank Top wears well.  I wear a hydration pack while I run, and sometimes, my shirts don’t hold up to the rubbing and friction that a pack causes. After three months of wearing this Tank Top with a pack, I do have one small patch of wear (pilling) across my chest, likely from a pack strap.  It’s minor wear, but also worth noting.

The styling of the Marmot Women’s Uptrail Active Tank Top is nice, keeping the tank top from looking basic.  The mesh panels along the underarms and back offer a bit of visual texture contrast, in addition to being functional.  There’s also a pleat in the center of the back of the tank top, which gives the shirt a nice detail and roominess for movement.

I’m also super impressed with the wicking and breathability.  In hot yoga, my shirts always become soaked with sweat.  The Uptrail Active Tank Top also became soaked, but never felt hot or clingy.  I recently wore the Uptrail Active Tank Top during Ragnar Trail Relay Zion.  My final leg (7.5 miles with 900 feet of climbing) was in the heat of the day at 1 PM and the run was along exposed ridgelines in the high alpine desert.  Immediately before the start of my run, I soaked the Uptrail Active Tank Top in a bucket of ice water, hoping that this move would help keep me from overheating.  As I ran, the tank top slowly dried out, with the evaporation keeping me feeling fairly cool.  When I hit the only aid station at 4.5 miles, I soaked the shirt again, and enjoyed feeling a bit cooler as I ran the final miles of my race.  It was a fantastic decision and I would happily do it again.
