Patagonia has been working hard to produce recycled Gore-Tex products. The new Patagonia Powder Bowl Jacket is a star of the collection.

Patagonia PowSlayer Recycled Goretex Pro Bibs

Last year Patagonia worked diligently with Gore-Tex to produce the worlds first recycled Gore-Tex Pro shell.  This year they brought that eco-tech to a more mainstream audience with the entirely recycled Gore-Tex Patagonia Powder Bowl collection. The Patagonia Powder Bowl Jacket is the focus of this review.

Patagonia Powder Bowl Jacket – Recycled Gore-Tex for the resort

The Powder Bowl line up is a top tear offering from Patagonia.  Featuring 2- layer Gore-Tex for the waterproof/breathable membrane. The Powder Bowl jacket is already a stacked jacket, but the fact that it has recycled Gore-Tex is the big take away here.  Now that Patagonia has been able to offer this, others can as well.  Everyone wins!

All the features you want for the slopes

The Patagonia Powder Bowl jacket is a burly 150-denier recycled polyester fabric that should withstand years of use (and abuse).  To top it off, the fabric is also bluesign approved. The jacket has all the features you would want in a resort jacket.

  1. Helmet-compatible hood
  2. Forearm pocket for pass or chapstick
  3. RECCO reflector
  4. Fleece hand warmer pockets
  5. Napolean pocket big enough for large iPhone
  6. Internal zippered pocket with a key leash
  7. Internal mesh pocket for gloves
  8. Powder skirt
  9. Loop to attach to pants to keep snow out
  10. Looks damn good!

Fit and Function

I am usually an XL in Patagonia jackets and that remains true for the Powder Bowl.  The fit is spot on, not too baggy, nor too tight.  I did not find its limited range of motion in any way.  The hood fits over a helmet, yet cinches down well over a hat too.  The hand pockets are lower on the jacket.  Making it ideal for day to day use and resort skiing.  The cuffs are adjustable and the sleeve length was perfect for my arms.

Who is the Patagonia Powder Bowl jacket for?

Anyone looking for a long lasting, functional and waterproof ski or snowboard jacket.  If you are into supporting companies that do their best to protect the environment (and I hope you do!) then this is ideal.  If you spend a lot of days at the resort and appreciate good quality, then this is for you. Available in Men’s jacket and pants as well as Women’s jackets and pants.

Who is this not for?

If you are looking for a backcountry touring jacket or the lightest jacket out there, this might not be the best choice for you.  The hand pockets would be covered up by the backpack hip straps and the weight is a bit heavier (35oz) than Gore-Tex Pro shell offerings (check out our review on the Patagonia PowSlayer!) MSRP $399
