The Mountain Hardwear Butter Up Hoody is a super soft base layer that you’ll wear everywhere this fall.

I’ve worn it mountain biking, around town, and taking the dogs out. To be honest, it is so soft that I love wearing it around the house and even to bed. Is the Butter Up Hoody multi use? Heck yes!
The Butter Up Hoody is a softer, slightly warmer cousin to Mountain Hardwear’s super popular Crater Lake Hoody, and has the same moisture-wicking, stretch, and UPF 50 properties (essential when you live in Colorado’s high country).

The low-profile thumb holes keep it in place when you use it underneath another layer and its anti-odor properties keep the funk at bay after a day recreating outdoors.
Key features:

Fabric is Key
In an outdoor recreation industry full of sun hoodies, Mountain Hardwear stands out from the rest due to the softness of its fabric. Constructed from brushed jersey knit, the Butter Up Hoody is durable and doesn’t snag easily.
Ten years ago, I purchased the first of three Mountain Hardwear Butter Hooded Topper Pullovers (now discontinued). It was amazing- so soft it nearly had a suedelike feel. I wore it everywhere- climbing 14ers, camping, etc. Ever since then, I’ve been a Mountain Hardwear hoody super fan.
I’m delighted that Mountain Hardwear continues to be a favorite after all these years. While the Butter Up fabric on the original hoody was a lighter fabric, the Butter Up Hoody has a similar unbelievably soft feel.
I also like how it is simply a hoody that does its job. No unnecessary features (i.e. oddly placed side pockets or drawcords) that I likely won’t use.

Worn underneath a midlayer, the Butter Up Hoody is a great layering piece. Available in five sizes (XS to XL) and printed and solid options, the Butter Up Hoody is a solid option for gift giving this holiday season.
