Diadora Men’s Cellula 2 Running Shoe

Review by Will Trail

Initial Impressions

A recent addition to Diadora’s running shoe lineup, the updated Men’s Cellula 2, is a daily trainer that blends comfort, neutral support, and long-term durability. It’s ideal for easy miles, walking, or recovery runs—especially if you prefer a slightly firmer ride and don’t mind a short break-in period. I hadn’t run in Diadora shoes before and was excited to try these out on my local trails.

The shoe is built on a Duratech 5000® outsole that delivers durable, sure footed traction across a variety of paved conditions. The outsole’s traction pads are spaced to provide plenty of grip while still allowing natural flex, and a softer rubber compound in the forefoot enhances push-off traction.

Above the outsole sits a dual-density ANIMA® and ANIMA N2® midsole engineered for energy return, lightness, and shock absorption. The construction offers generous heel and midfoot cushioning with a noticeable but mild “bounce” underfoot.

The Nylon Air mesh and microfiber upper create an engineered mesh structure with varying weave patterns to provide targeted support and breathability. A removable molded TPU sockliner matches foot contours and further contributes to cushioning and airflow.

A traditional lacing system secures the foot well, using six eyelets per side to distribute lace pressure evenly.

Detailed Review

The fit felt right from the start—no pressure points formed when the shoes were laced up, and the heel locked my foot securely to prevent any lift. They’re quick to put on and adjust, offering a stable, responsive feel while staying light on the feet.

The Men’s US 10.5 pair took a few runs to break in, which is to be expected. I normally wear a size 10.5–11, and the toe box feels slightly tighter than in other shoes of the same size. I have standard-width feet, so runners with wider feet should take note. Personally, I’d go up a half size for my next pair of Diadora shoes. As always, trying footwear on in person is best.

I tested these shoes on several paved runs of varying lengths. The DURATECH 5000 outsole offers solid grip, and I never experienced any slippage. Off-road use would reduce traction, but that’s outside the shoe’s intended purpose.

Breathability is good as the Nylon mesh upper kept my feet cool, and I didn’t encounter any overheating. The 5 mm drop is within my usual range, and I didn’t develop any unusual aches or discomfort during testing.

As a runner with heavy footfalls, I found the cushioning level well-suited to my stride. While the ANIMA and ANIMA N2 midsole effectively dampens impact, there is still a moderate amount of lateral support and control. The midsole blend, paired with the forefoot rocker, provides a subtle rebound “pop” that helps propel you forward. High marks to Diadora for combining moderate cushioning and control in the Cellula 2. They’re comfortable on foot, and the 305-gram weight is appropriate for an everyday trainer. After a few runs, the midsoles did break in a bit and felt a touch softer.

Closing Thoughts

After several runs in the Diadora Cellula 2, I’ve been impressed by the responsiveness and comfort delivered by the upper and midsole. My feet felt securely locked in, and the DURATECH 5000 outsole offered dependable grip on pavement. The ANIMA and ANIMA N2 midsole cushioning works well with my heavier running style, providing neutral support and a satisfying, responsive push forward.

Fit-wise, these run slightly smaller than my other running shoes, so I recommend going a half size up—or better yet, trying them on in person.

This is a shoe that favors comfort and longevity over outright speed and is well suited for runners who want a stable, neutral daily trainer. Diadora really nailed it with the Cellula 2, creating a solid everyday pavement shoe that’s not afraid of longer runs when needed.
