Detailed Review

I LOVE soft, fuzzy, cozy things.  When I saw the Marmot Aerothermal Hoody at a outdoor preview show, I was like a moth to a flame.

The jacket appears to be pretty standard in silhouette and features.  The exterior shell is a 100% recycled polyester in a matte, solid color.  The interior is where the magic happens.  The entire jacket is lined with lightweight, fuzzy PrimaLoft® Active Evolve high-loft fleece insulation. It feels like you have the softest, coziest fleece blanket surrounding your upper body, but without the bulk.

The Marmot Aerothermal Hoody fits true to size.  The sleeves have elastic cuffs that hit mid-hand and the bottom hem hits me just above the hips. The zipper stop at the top of the jacket is covered so you don’t experience any scratching or irritation from hard zipper pulls when the jacket is fully zipped up.

I’ve been wearing the Marmot Aerothermal Hoody on all of my late summer and early fall camping adventures.  The jacket easily stashes in the topliner of my van or inside a bag, and it shows zero wrinkles after being wadded up and brought out to wear.  While not specifically windproof, the nature of the insulation creates a warm channel of air between you and the exterior ripstop, that helps to keep you protected from light, chilly breezes. The jacket is not waterproof (which is a bit of a bummer) but it does handle light drizzle for short durations.

The pockets have the are zippered and are generously sized.  They’re also lined with PrimaLoft® Active Evolve to keep your hands warm.  The hood has elastic along the face edge, which allows the hood to stay in place while moving or if things get windy.  The elastic is just the right amount of snug on my forehead.

The Marmot Aerothermal Hoody cleans up easily.  The jacket is machine washable on delicate, but I’ve found the exterior cleans up easily with a damp cloth.  Campfire smoke was quickly taken care of by airing it out for an afternoon in the sunshine.

The Marmot Aerothermal Hoody has been great for sitting next to a campfire on chilly fall evenings.  It offers the perfect combination of warmth, lightness, and breathability.  It hasn’t been cold enough for winter activities, but I bet this jacket would make a fantastic ski mid-layer under a shell jacket or as an external layer for winter running or cycling.

The Marmot Aerothermal Hoody is available for both men and women.  The women’s is available in three colorways and sizes ranging from XS to XL.

Somewhere along her triathlon journey, she picked up deep love of cycling. Cycling encouraged her to see landscapes in a new way, learn new skills and to develop self reliance; now she often goes and does Type 2 rides just to see if she can do it.  She’s got all the bikes: gravel, mountain, fat bike, time trial and road.
She is even known to combine her love of camping and cycling and go off on solo 24 hour overnight bikepacking trips in the mountains of Colorado. In addition to bikes, she teaches yoga, lifts weights, skis, SUPs and has recently purchased a campervan.

Fall and winter 2025 will bring Erin to the “Adventure Side”, with many camping, vanlife, bikepacking, and mountain bike rides. Once the snow flies, she can be find resort skiing, fat biking, and triathlon training (inside and outside).
2026 will bring a National Championship Cross Tri race, a National Championship Road Sprint and Olympic Distance race, and hopefully a chance to represent Team USA once again in 2027 in Edmonton, Canada. She’ll also save lots of room for adventure time with her friends and husband.
When not adventuring, she can be found on a sunny patio somewhere, drinking beers with her husband.
