Recently, I received a sample of the Nank Runner Diver2 Pro;
Bone Conduction Headphones for Sports

Details:

I had wanted to try these as an option mainly for cycling as I thought the bone conduction feature might allow me to have better situational awareness regarding vehicles or people that are around me while riding. I do a lot of outdoor activities including hiking and skiing and wanted to try these in those environments too. Unfortunately, I’m not swimming laps these days and did not have an opportunity to test these underwater/while swimming. For those that do, these might be an attractive option.

As advertised, these bone conduction headphones pack a lot of features:

  • Noise-canceling mode

  • Open-ear mode

  • IP69 Waterproofing

  • Bluetooth 5.4 with integrated MP3 player with 32GB on onboard memory

  • Ten-hour battery life

These come with a USB powered magnetic charging cable, three sizes of “sound quality enhancers” (these fit between your ears and the headphones), a set of earplugs and a strap that can be used to adjust the fit.

Wear testing:

I live in the high mountains of Colorado which means that the weather changes a lot from very cold in the winter to hot summers. I’ve tried these headphones on my road bike, hiking, Nordic skiing and occasionally around the house. I’ve learned that these bone conduction headphones can let me hear good sound (music and audiobooks) while recreating outside and also let in ambient sounds to allow me to be aware of my surroundings. This seems to work best on “open ear mode” (see user guide or website for details). When hiking or hanging out in the house, I found open ear mode works just fine.

For doing cardio activities, I found like like having the headphones in Noise-canceling mode for two reasons;

  1. When you adjust the headphones to this mode, they grip your ears better, which I like when riding a bike as they stay in place where I want them.

  2. The headphones also do a better job of keeping out unwanted ambient noise in this mode.

I found for most outdoor activities I engage in, I much prefer the Noise-canceling mode. Now, a word about cold-weather activities; I did wear these while Nordic skiing in cold weather, about 20 degrees F. I used Noise-canceling mode for security and better sound. This said, these headphones do not fit very well under snug stocking caps/beanies/toques. They were OK with a less snug and more “fleecy” cap. The sound quality was OK this way, but I did discover I would rather wear the earbuds I normally wear for skiing activities as I like the sound a little better and they’re just more comfortable with a hat covering them.

Sound quality and function; I found the activity I really like these for is road cycling. They’re a nice combination of fit, comfort, sound quality and also safety. Since they are bone-conducting headphones, some ambient sounds do reach my ears and I like this feature. I will likely continue to wear these for cycling once warmer weather returns to my area. I like using them both for music and audiobooks.

These headphones charge quickly and I never had a problem with them running out of battery power. I do like that I can wear them confidently outdoors and I do not have to worry about them getting wet if I get caught in the rain or the snow, something that does happen when I recreate outdoors. All in all, I’d recommend these if you want to try something different for sports activities than competing headphones or earbuds.

These headphones are available directly from the manufacturer and ship from Hong Kong. Alternatively, they market these through Nank’s storefront on Amazon.com as well. Shipping times will vary.
