Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra

Review by Erin Trail

The Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra is a fun and functional option, perfect for women wanting medium compression and coverage.

The Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra is a great option for women in the A – C cup range, meaning it’s supportive but not crazy compressive.

My favorite feature about the Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra is the styling.  The front is full coverage but the band still hits me “just right” along the ribcage (i.e. not too long or too skimpy).  The back is really cute and stylish, with a strappy fan designed into the back shoulders of the sports bra. While intended for performance, this sports bra would look great under a pair of overalls (sans shirt) or solo with some high waisted leggings.

I’ve tested the Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra during late summer runs (temperatures in the low 70s), mountain bike rides, weight training sessions, and in hot yoga.  The sports bra did well for all of my testing activities, but it might be my favorite for hot yoga, due to the fan styling in the back.  I usually wear a tank top for hot yoga, but the Open Lane Sports bra’s styling gave me the confidence to ditch the shirt.

The fabric and layers of the Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra give the sports bra a heavy and slightly bulky feel, likely due to the inner liner and removable modesty cups.  My reference point are triathlon sports bras, which are pretty lightweight and meant to dry quickly, so my tactile preference is biased here. With the perceived heaviness, I thought the sports bra would feel hot, but I was pleasantly surprised that I felt comfortable in all of my activities.  The sports bra breathed well and never felt soggy or clammy.

Specifically, the Open Lane Sports Bra utilized Oiselle’s Plya medium compression fabric, which is 76% polyester/24% spandex and bluesign® approved.

The fit of the Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra took some time to dial in.  I have a pretty large rib cage and according to the size chart, a size 10 seemed like the size I needed to order. Due to the full coverage design of the front and my small cup size, this ended up being WAY too much fabric for me and I needed to size down to a size 8.  The band of the Open Lane Sports Bra fits great – it stays put and I am able to breathe comfortably. The band – which seems softer and a bit thicker than the triathlon bras I own – also felt really nice.  No chafing or rubbing.  The front of the bra by the neckline is still a smidge too big for me, which really was only evident when I was holding downward facing dog.  I had plenty of support and compression for more active things, like running or cycling, that a bit of gapping when in down dog is a minor quibble. Finally, the placement of the shoulder straps was ideal, hitting me at the perfect spot along my traps and collarbone, with no rubbing or irritation.

Closing Thoughts

The Oiselle Open Lane Sports Bra is stylish and functional sports bra, intended for small to medium busted women who need medium support. The Open Lane Sports Bra is available in sizes ranging from 2 to 14 and has seasonally changing colorways.

Somewhere along her triathlon journey, she picked up deep love of cycling. Cycling encouraged her to see landscapes in a new way, learn new skills and to develop self reliance; now she often goes and does Type 2 rides just to see if she can do it.  She’s got all the bikes: gravel, mountain, fat bike, time trial and road.
She is even known to combine her love of camping and cycling and go off on solo 24 hour overnight bikepacking trips in the mountains of Colorado. In addition to bikes, she teaches yoga, lifts weights, skis, SUPs and has recently purchased a campervan.

Erin is a former Montana park ranger with a degree in environmental engineering.  She loves getting into technical details while putting her gear (and herself) through the paces. She shares her home in Colorado with her husband, Will, and her 3 cats (Zipper, Brewtus, and Simcoe).
Fall and winter 2025 will bring Erin to the “Adventure Side”, with many camping, vanlife, bikepacking, and mountain bike rides. Once the snow flies, she can be find resort skiing, fat biking, and triathlon training (inside and outside).
2026 will bring a National Championship Cross Tri race, a National Championship Road Sprint and Olympic Distance race, and hopefully a chance to represent Team USA once again in 2027 in Edmonton, Canada. She’ll also save lots of room for adventure time with her friends and husband.
When not adventuring, she can be found on a sunny patio somewhere, drinking beers with her husband.
