Review by Will Trail

Initial Impressions

A proven standard in The North Face’s running shoe lineup, the Men’s VECTIV™ Enduris 4 is built for everyday trail running and longer-distance adventures across varied terrain. It features a thick, cushioned midsole with rockered geometry and a durable outsole—aiming to balance comfort, stability, and versatility.

The SURFACE CTRL™ outsole uses 4 mm chevron-style lugs that provide dependable grip and a secure feel on both loose dirt and packed trails. Ten percent of the rubber is sourced from farmers committed to regenerative agricultural practices and agroforestry principles.

The midsole consists of a full-length, ultralight nitrogen-infused DREAM TPU foam for high energy return, reduced weight, and increased longevity. Embedded within is a VECTIV™ 3.0 high-performance 3D TPU plate, which adds forward momentum, while the 3D forefoot wings enhance stability across uneven terrain. Compared to the previous VECTIV Enduris 3, this model includes an additional 2 mm of cushioning throughout.

Up top, the dual-warp engineered mesh upper (57% recycled material) delivers breathability and lightweight comfort while maintaining structure. Improved heel construction and tongue wings provide integrated heel and midfoot lockdown to keep the foot stable and secure.

Detailed Review

Sliding into the VECTIV Enduris 4 and tightening the laces reveals an immediate, comfortable wrap around the foot. There are no noticeable pressure points, and the heel holds securely without causing friction or irritation. The upper breathes well and the lacing system distributes tension evenly instead of concentrating it in one area.

I tested the shoes over a range of trail runs and hikes. The SURFACE CTRL™ outsoles offer excellent grip, providing confident traction on loose dirt, packed trails, rocky climbs, and descents. I never felt short on stability across sand, cobbles, or rock outcrops; the shoes simply take hold of the ground and let you focus on your movement.

As a heavy-footed runner, I found the cushioning level to be ideal. The midsole absorbed impacts effectively without feeling mushy, and I still experienced substantial lateral support from the VECTIV™ 3D wings, which add structure around the forefoot. The combination of generous cushioning and solid control is a standout strength in the VECTIV™ Enduris 4. Additionally, the VECTIV™ 3.0 TPU plate and rockered midsole geometry delivered a noticeable forward “push” during transitions.

The size 10.5 US pair required a few runs to break in as expected for this style of shoe. I typically wear a 10.5–11 US, and the toe box felt comfortably roomy. I have standard-width feet, so runners with wider feet might want to consider sizing up or trying the shoe in person. For my next pair from The North Face, I’d choose the same size.

Closing Thoughts

After multiple runs and hikes, I’ve been consistently impressed by the comfort and secure fit created by the lacing system and heel lockdown. My feet stayed firmly planted in the shoe and, by extension, confidently connected to the trail thanks to the grippy SURFACE CTRL™ outsole. Toe protection is solid, with a durable toe cap that shields against trail impacts. The DREAM cushioning supports my heavier running style, while the VECTIV™ 3.0 TPU plate, VECTIV™ wings, and rockered midsole geometry work together to add smooth, natural forward momentum without sacrificing control or stability.

In terms of sizing, these run true to my other running shoes, so I recommend going with your regular size though trying them on in person is always best. Overall, The North Face VECTIV™ Enduris 4 is a confidence-inspiring trail shoe that handles everything from routine trail miles to rocky scrambles, delivering high levels of cushioning, support, and control.
