Perfect for shoulder season in the mountains, the Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie is a performance sweater fleece jacket that balances warmth, fashion, and function.

Initial Thoughts

My initial thoughts on the Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie is that it is aesthetically stunning.

Mammut absolutely nailed this season’s most popular color: deep teal. Not too green and not too blue, I would describe the color as a beautiful turquoise.

The melange details offered a distinct two-tone, textured appearance. They provided a beautiful backdrop for the white embroidered Mammut name and logos. Together, the embroidery and unique-looking knit made the Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie altogether striking.

In addition to the beautiful color, I loved that the hoodie did not follow the short, boxy style that is trending right now. Instead, it is designed to be functional and has a practical length to keep me warm.

Function and Performance

Let’s talk about function.

The all-mountain Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie’s Polartec® Thermal Pro® fleece kept me warm and comfortable on the coldest of days.

On frosty mornings and frigid evenings walking the dogs, the insulating mid layer kept me toasty warm.

Its soft, brushed interior and sweater-like texture exterior brought maximum coziness, while the flat seams prevented chafing.

Offering an ideal warmth to weight ratio, the Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie wasn’t overly bulky and I could wear it underneath an outer layer with no problem.

Paired with leggings or just casual hiking pants, the lofted structure Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie is perfect for mountain living. Because it isn’t overtly technical looking, it gives me the look of a nice sweater and the performance technical gear.

Described as “Regular Fit”, I found the hoodie was true to size. Although it is not offered in extended (i.e. petite or tall) sizes, I found the overall fit adequate.

As a petite woman, the most common frustration I have with clothing are the impossibly long sleeves. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised the sleeves weren’t super long and didn’t look bunched up like other performance sweater fleece I’ve tried this season.

I appreciated the practical zippered chest and hand pockets for my chapstick and keys. Hand pockets are so practical that I typically bypass any top that doesn’t have them.

When the wind blew, I appreciated the elasticated border on the hood and the elastic hem and cuffs- they did an efficient job of keeping the elements out.

From a gorgeous color to practical features and stylish design and cozy warmth, the Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie is my favorite sweater-inspired performance fleece this season.

In a world of sweater fleece, the all-mountain Mammut Arctic IV ML Hoodie stands out from the rest for its beautiful, eye-catching knit. I recommend it for daily wear- getting around town, hiking, or walking the dogs.
