Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve

Review by Erin Trail

The Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve is intended to be the ideal layer for those first miles, before you’ve warmed up, but I actually think it’s a fantastic top for any cool weather run.

Detailed Review

First and foremost, I am OBSESSED with the Flyout HoverFit™ fabric.  Seriously, it’s the star of the show.

The Flyout HoverFit™ fabric is VERY lightweight – so light that you can easily see through it.  It’s also got a unique, almost mesh texture, that makes the Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve light and breathable.

I’ve been wearing the Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve on cooler late fall runs, with temperatures ranging in the 40s to 60s. As advertised, the funnel neck and longer sleeves do a great job of keeping your torso warm as you begin to warm up during your run. The tightness of the neckline is actually great, and combined with the Flyout HoverFit™ fabric, it’s actually perfect, both as you warmup but also as you continue to run. My only complaint is that the cut of the shoulders + neck is wonky, making it look like the shirt is on backwards. I have super big, rounded swimmer shoulders, so this effect is pretty exaggerated on me.

The shirt is slightly cropped and I’d say that semi-fitted is an accurate description.  I’m a size 8 according to the Oiselle size chart and I feel that the Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve fits true to size.  If you want a more form-fitting shirt, size down.

The fabric, being super lightweight, seems like it would be fairly susceptible to snags and wear.  I run with a pack (always!) and the Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve doesn’t pull or snag, however I have noticed a small bit of pilling at the high friction contact point of my pack. The shirt also plays well with a variety of running packs, without awkward bunching or moving around.

I realize that the Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve is designed to be a warm up, then strip off garment.  However, I have found that the temperature regulation is excellent throughout my runs, even after I’ve warmed up. This shirt is ideal for temperatures around 50 degrees (for me).  I was also recalling my struggle in figuring out clothing options for my long winter runs when I lived in Houston.  I really think that the Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve is ideal for those living in warmer climates who need a light long sleeve shirt during those cooler winter months.

Closing Thoughts

In short, other than some funky neckline styling, I love the Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve so much that I’m learning to love the neckline.  This shirt is ideal for cooler runs that are too cool for a t-shirt but it breathes so well that you won’t risk overheating.  But if you do want to take it off after a mile or two, the shirt is designed to tie around your waist and hang out for the remainder of your run.

The Oiselle Flyout Mile One Long Sleeve is available in three colorways and in women’s sizes ranging from 2 to 14.

Fall and winter 2025 will bring Erin to the “Adventure Side”, with many camping, vanlife, bikepacking, and mountain bike rides. Once the snow flies, she can be find resort skiing, fat biking, and triathlon training (inside and outside).
2026 will bring a National Championship Cross Tri race, a National Championship Road Sprint and Olympic Distance race, and hopefully a chance to represent Team USA once again in 2027 in Edmonton, Canada. She’ll also save lots of room for adventure time with her friends and husband.
When not adventuring, she can be found on a sunny patio somewhere, drinking beers with her husband.
