Royal Robbins Adventure Dress

Review by Erin Trail

The Royal Robbins Adventure Dress is intended as a do-everything adventure dress.  It’s made from soft recycled polyester fabric, that’s breathable, stretchy and lightweight. The dress also has pockets – and who doesn’t love a dress with pockets?

The Royal Robbins Adventure Dress is a soft, flowy dress that has a fit-and-flare silhouette, a high neck, and a racerback cut shoulders.  The fabric is a knit jersey, made from a stretchy TENCEL™ Lyocell blend.  The  TENCEL™ fibers are sourced from wood pulp, making them sustainable and environmentally friendly.

I have a big trip to Spain coming up and I wanted a nice, travel-ready dress for some nicer meals or outings. I love jersey knit for travel because of how it stays wrinkle-free.  Jersey knit also seems to flow really nicely and look good in a variety of clothing items.

The Royal Robbins Adventure Dress hits me right above the knee (I’m 5’4″), which for me, is perfect for an active dress.  I’m a size medium according to the size chart and found that the dress fit perfectly.

The fit and flare cut of the dress is one of my favorite silhouettes.  It’s universally flattering on a variety of body shapes.

The TENCEL™ fabric makes the Royal Robbins Adventure Dress ideal for travel.  It’s flowy and doesn’t wrinkle.  I rolled the dress up and put it into a compression cube for travel. The dress looked great when it was time to wear it.

I LOVE the shoulders of the Royal Robbins Adventure Dress.  The upper of the dress definitely fits into the “sporty” category of design.  I’m a swimmer, and over time, I’ve grown pretty proud of my shoulders and like to show them off.  The neckline is high, hitting at the collar bone.  The back shoulders is a a racerback design.

My favorite feature of the Royal Robbins Adventure Dress is the pockets.  They are generously sized and the pocket lining doesn’t add bulk to the hip area of the dress.

My only minor quibble with the Royal Robbins Adventure Dress is that it doesn’t have a built in shelf bra.  With the racerback shoulders, this means I’ll have to pack a bra that converts from normal straps to racerback straps.  Having a built in bra would take care of my personal packing dilemma.

The Royal Robbins Adventure Dress comes in women’s sizes XS through XL and is offered in 4 colors.

Cycling encouraged her to see landscapes in a new way, learn new skills and to develop self reliance; now she often goes and does Type 2 rides just to see if she can do it.  She’s got all the bikes: gravel, mountain, fat bike, time trial and road.
She is even known to combine her love of camping and cycling and go off on solo 24 hour overnight bikepacking trips in the mountains of Colorado. In addition to bikes, she teaches yoga, lifts weights, skis, SUPs and has recently purchased a campervan.

Erin is a former Montana park ranger with a degree in environmental engineering.  She loves getting into technical details while putting her gear (and herself) through the paces. She shares her home in Colorado with her husband, Will, and her 3 cats (Zipper, Brewtus, and Simcoe).
2025 brings some exciting things.  Erin has qualified to be on Team USA for USA Triathlon and will be competing in a World Championship off-road triathlon in Pontevedra, Spain in June. To prepare for this event, she’s got several mountain bike races and training weekends planned in the months leading up to the big day.  Additionally, she’s racing Ironman Boise 70.3 in July.  Once her race schedule closes out in July, she’ll be moving to more adventure based activities (bikepacking, vanlife, and mountain bike festivals).
When not adventuring, she can be found on a sunny patio somewhere, drinking beers with her husband.
