Brian McCarthy
My name is Brian McCarthy, originally from Philly, but I had dreamt of being in the CO mountains for quite some time.

My wife and I were able to make that dream a reality in 2013 and we don’t leave often unless it’s a camping expedition to one of the surrounding states. We, as a family, average 10 weeks on the road camping per year. We beat up gear and enjoy nature as often as we can and it is definitely our “best family time”.

When I moved here to CO, and fall became winter, I was confused why most people stopped camping when the snow started falling.

I got some snowshoes and would hike up into the mountains with borrowed Army surplus gear and sometimes triple stacking summer sleeping bags to be warm(ish) throughout the night. I loved it and that’s what sparked my interest in acquiring gear that’s functional, reliable, and hopefully not as heavy/bulky as the gear I was borrowing.
Nowadays I get 50+ days splitboarding the CO mountains, am currently interning at Jones Pass Guides, camp as much as possible with my family and I spend the warmer months enjoying high alpine mountain bike rides with a special affinity for anything related to riding/bikepacking the Colorado Trail.
