Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings

Review by Erin Trail

The Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings are a super soft and cozy base layer legging option – with pockets!

The weather in Denver has finally turned into fall, with low temperatures in the 20s and highs in the 50s.  I’ve been wearing the Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings pretty much daily – on my work from home days, weekends, and in the evenings after work.

They have quickly become one of my favorite things to wear when I want a little softness and coziness, which lets face it, is pretty much any time of the day.

I have a pair of regular size mediums and found them to fit true to size. The fit is compressive but not smothering – it’s more like a gentle hug. The ankle length is perfect on me, hitting just at the ankle bone.

The website states that the waistband is high, but on me (I’m 5’4″ with a freakish 31″ inseam), they hit me at the navel, so I’ve found that the waistband is more middle than high. The waistband construction is lovely.  It’s a wide yoga waistband made from 2 layers of fabric that still feels comfortable but not thick and restrictive.  And the waistband doesn’t move – no folding, no rolling, no pulling downwards.

The Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings pockets are placed in the perfect spot.  I never know what to do with my hands when I walk around, especially when I teach yoga.  The pockets are placed at exactly the right height for hand insertion.  They’re also large enough to fit a phone.

My pair of Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings are black and I’ve found that they are truly opaque.  Some leggings have a bit of sheen to them, due to the spandex in the fabric, which gives the appearance of them being see through.  Some are actually, embarrassingly, see through. The Woolx fabric in the Piper leggings is a tight weave and is perfectly matte and opaque – even when the fabric is more stretched out during squats.

The fabric is 85% Australian Merino Wool, 12% Nylon, 3% Spandex and comes in at a 330g Heavy Weight rating. They are considered “heavyweight” in Woolx’s warmth scale (versus midweight). I’ve been wearing them primarily as leggings, not as a base layer during my testing. They have been comfortably warm on quick journeys to the mailbox in 30 degree temps but also nice and comfortable in my 62 degree house.  Based on the fabric weight, I feel confident that these would be a great base layer item under ski pants or other cold weather active layers.

Finally, the Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings are really soft. My skin gets randomly angry (I get urticaria, which is basically a big welty rash).  The Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings are truly super soft and cozy. The interior of the legging fabric is a subtly brushed texture, giving the leggings a slightly fleecy feeling when you wear them.

The Woolx Piper Pocket Leggings are available in seven jewel tone colorways, come with our without pockets, three lengths (petite, regular, tall), and sizes ranging from XS to XL.

Fall and winter 2025 will bring Erin to the “Adventure Side”, with many camping, vanlife, bikepacking, and mountain bike rides. Once the snow flies, she can be find resort skiing, fat biking, and triathlon training (inside and outside).
2026 will bring a National Championship Cross Tri race, a National Championship Road Sprint and Olympic Distance race, and hopefully a chance to represent Team USA once again in 2027 in Edmonton, Canada. She’ll also save lots of room for adventure time with her friends and husband.
When not adventuring, she can be found on a sunny patio somewhere, drinking beers with her husband.
